Q: 78 Ford Bronco Rear Differential?
I need a gasket for the rear end of my 78 bronco. All broncos from 66 to 85 were 9 inch rear ends. As is mine. But when i went to O’Reillys to order one their computer said all those Broncos were 8.5 inch rear ends. Any ideas?
A: Just go tell them you need a 9″ ford rear end gasket. There all gonna be the same shape.Or you and just but a tube of gasket maker and apply it where the gasket would be.
Q: Does anyone have a diagram for removing the interior door pannle on a 78 ford Bronco?
A: Hey FordFan,
To answer your question, no I do not have a diagram, but I will bet you anything,(except cash, my first born son or my soul), that you can find it on this site. http://www.bronco.com/
Also you should spring for the $15-20 and get yourself a Haynes book for your model from your local Pep Boys, Napa or AutoZone, etc.

This book has saved me $1000’s over the years. Good luck.

He’s got a ton of fords floating around that place and if you act like you don’t really need it they can be talked down on the price… you gotta remove it yourself though.

Q: Will the doors from a 78-79 Ford Bronco fit a 78 F-100?
Hi guys,
I’m hoping you guys can help out. I’m in the middle of rebuilding a 1978 F-100, but I want to replace the original doors with ones that have power windows. I was looking into the 78 -79 Broncos because someone told me they would fit the F-100 body style. Has anyone done this before? Does anyone know if the doors of a 78-79 Bronco fit on a 78 F-100? If they do, does anyone know where I can find a pair? I already hit up all the local junk yards but no luck! Any suggestions or advice would definitely help!
Thanks!
A: yes the doors from a 78-79 bronco will fit your f-100. and i just did this with my 79 f150.and your actually better off with used ones(if they are ford) because taiwan aftermarket doors never line up right, and sometimes u have to shave them down.in a nutshell, they are junk!!..if u are looking for a used set, email me and ill give u a place u can go and get a decent set of doors….
Q: Should i invest money on a Ford Bronco?
I have a friend who’s cousin is selling his ‘78 Ford Bronco for what was $1,000.00 Now he asking $700.00 due to going through a divorce. It has a 351 Cleveland,4X4,5 Speed Trans.Removable top and it needs a paint job.he says it runs really good.Should i or shouldn’t i.
A: In most cases, if it runs half way decent and has a clear title its worth $700.00. If the 4×4 works its a good deal, if you have the extra cash. I’ve been looking for a good 4×4. All I can find is crap in that price range.
Q: what do you think of the 66-77 or 78-79 ford bronco?
A: The older you talk about the more expensive the parts are getting to be. Also more scarce to find. Keep that in mind wheather money is an issue or not…
Q: How much horsepower does a 1979 ford bronco have?
I have a 1979 ford bronco 400 big block in it and yes its a 400 big block cause ‘78 and ‘79 are the only years ford made 400’s and i was wonderign how much horsepower it had under the hood?
well if its a 400 big blco kshouldnt it have 400 hp or what is that number for?
A: The 400M was rated at 169 HP. Stock the 400M is pretty weak, but they be can built up into serious torque monsters.

The Bronco and the F-Series had the same engines from 1978-1996
Q: has anyone seen or put a ranger cab on a 78 bronco frame or any ford truck fraame because i have one on a 78?
A: Hi Bryan,
Yup, I’ve seen that sort of thing. The 79/79 Bronco frame is a popular platform for swapping bodies on to. It’s relatively simple for a person with solid fabrication skills. Hopefully whoever did yours did a good job. There are a few places where you don’t want to skimp when doing a swap like that. If they did a weak job of it, it will work fine on the road, and break on the trail.
You need to check out projectbronco.com, and post your question there. There is a massive wealth of info and experience with 73-79 Ford trucks and especially 78/79 Broncos there.
Q: Gas Mileage on 78 Bronco?
Hey all, Im considering buying a 1978 Ford Bronco and just want some info. Weighing the money I’d save on insurance versus the money Id pay for gas right now.
So does anyone know how many mpg’s a 78 Bronco (351/400) tends to get?
Also, maybe more importantly, how big is the gas tank?
Thanks for your help!
A: Honesty, you’re looking at around 9-12 MPG. These trucks didn’t have overdrive transmissions. The fuel tank should be around 30 gallons give or take. No way you’re getting 15-18 MPG
Q: 1978 ford where is sending unit for temp gage?
i have a 78 ford bronco where is sending unit on the eng block
A: Should be on the thermostat housing or on the front of the manifold on the V8, possibly the middle area on a straight 6.
Q: I am wonder about my 78 bronco,u joint drive ,shaft or differentail is gone not sure, can you help?
I am wonder about my 78 bronco,u jiont drive ,shaft or differentail is gone not sure, can you help?
I have a lifted 1978 ford bronco it was making clicking sound brought to a mechanic he said it was u joint ,so changed u joint, about 2 weeks after drove to store And u joint popped right out,so got another cause had some young guy change it,so took drive shaft off and put it in 4H she drove home fine.I put other u joint in and after put it in put back in gear and she wouldn’t move forward made like all my tires are seized ,so took drive shaft of again and she drives fine,so my ?is could it be drive-shaft seized or ,could be my differential? cause in 4h she drives fine so want to know also if my back differential was screwed would she make a sound when driving if differential was gone?
she has drive shaft angled she has had 4 inch body as well as 4 inch suspention and was done pro so everything was changed to suit the lift!
if differentail was blown would she still drive in 4h with drive-shaft off without making a sound from back end?
A: If all four wheel roll it can not be that either or one of the differentials are seized. Test this for two reasons: Put the truck on jack-stands and remove the drive-shafts. Twist the yokes that come out of the rear ends. If the two wheels turn, the ring and pinions must be OK. When you “lift” a short wheel base vehicle universal joints take a terrible beating. The correct terminology is input and output speed which is *different when you have a lot of U-joint angularity because of the “lift”. Guess what happens next: With a severe rear U-joint angularity the rear wheels are trying to run at a slightly different speed than the front universal joint on the same drive-shaft. You know already what parts crap-out first.
Inspect the U-joint clearances carefully. Make darn sure normal suspension travel isn’t causing the joints to bind. You’ll see marks on the ends of the drive-shaft, front slip joint and rear end/s yokes.
If all clearances are adequate, nothing in the world beats Spicer universal joints.
Q: Will a 78 Bronco Steering Column (Automatic Tranni) fit in my 77 F-150 Pickup?
My truck is a 77 Ford F-150 with a 351M with a C-6 Automatic Tranni. i need the steering Column to replace. also what years will interchange.
A: Why don’t you call an auto wrecking yard and ask them. They are knowledgeable about these things. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind helping you out. Making a phone call takes but a minute.
