Q: I am replacing the head liner in 1978 Ford Bronco II. The insulation under the headliner was bad.?
I am replacing the head liner in my 1978 Ford Bronco II. The insulation under the headliner was bad. What can I use for insulation. I have heard you can use foam board type insulation sold at Home Depot.

I also need to know how thick the insulation must be or how can I take a measurement to determine the thickness of the insulation.

A: Most headliners are like yours. They are foam and material put on cardboard. I have never replaced one myself but have been told you can use 1/8 to 1/4 sheet of foam bought from any craft store. You could even buy from local upholstery shop. Clean your board and reuse it if in good shape. Glue foam to board using spray can. Then glue headliner to foam. Install headliner back into truck being careful not to stretch material too much. Check online under Ford truck parts to see if you can buy one already assembled. Good luck!

Q: How do you change a clutch in a 1978 ford bronco with a 351M engine ?
I am asking how to do this if you think taking it to a shop is your Answer please do not reply.

A: If I remember correctly you’ll have to remove cross member thats under the transmission and tranfer case. You’ll have to unhook the drive shafts, linkages and remove the transmission and transfer case, You’ll need to resurface flywheel and replace clutch assembly.

Q: why dose my 1978 ford bronco not have any power?
My ford bronco has a 460 bored .30 over dosent seem like it has the power. its got a new carb new distributer but dose have yellow spark any ideas?

A: a yellow spark is too weak to efficiently ignite the fuel/air mixture.
you should have a hot blue/white spark.

IDEAS :

1 weak coil (most common cause)
2 worn dist cap and rotor.
3 worn/damaged plug wires.
4 spark plugs worn / gap to big. (should be .045 in.)

Q: I have a 1978 ford Bronco with a 1970 429. What should i use as far as parts for a full tune-up ?
Plugs, wires everything. I want more torque then speed !

A: A good tune up with everything and some tweaking of the carburetor,
to include setting up your total timing of the motor will get you the
most performance out of your 429 cid.

Q: I have a 1976 corvette and am looking to trade it for a pre 1978 ford bronco. Anyone got one to trade?

Q: 1978 Bronco rust prevention?
I just bought a 1978 Bronco with a lift on it. Anywho I am goin to use it for my winter car here in PA(live near Trenton) and my question is what is the best way to prevent rust from happening? I know these Broncos rust out pretty bad, but one I pick up was from a vary old man who sold it cheap with no rust. Got vary lucky.

So my question is (if you do not want to read everything I wrote) how do I prevent rust from hitting my new 1978 Bronco?

thanks

Brad

A: There is places that will undercoat them very good by drilling holes and spraying into places that you cant reach by regular spray undercoating that you do yourself. they place rubber plugs in the holes they drill to make it look neat. Some car shops advertise this and also look in the yellow pages for these shops

Q: 1978 ford bronco 6.6L?
Another dumb question, I could find out by dropping my gas tank but on the 1978 bronco ranger 6.6L 400m is there a fuel pump in the gas tank? Mine has a inline fuel pump in about the middle of the vehicle on the driver side so no mechanical pump is being used. After the truck runs for 10 min or so it just stops pumping fuel. I pulled the inline pump out and rigged it up to a 12 volt power source and let it run for about 2 hours just pumping fuel from a large container back into the container so it just was reused. I don’t see how it would be vapor lock the pump is in a cool place and the fuel lines in the engine compartment are not getting all that hot. I am just pulling my hair out any thoughts? thanks in advance!

A: You’ve got a carb engine, so the fuel pump is on the drivers side of the engine block, on the timing chain cover, UNLESS someone has modified it. And, since the factory did not put in line pumps on Bronco’s, looks like yours was modified by a previous owner. When you say it stops pumping fuel, is it still working, just not pumping ??? And vapour lock is a problem in the carb, where you have a carb heated by the engine .

Q: i have a 1978 Ford Bronco XLT, does anyone know if the engine is injected, carbureted or throttle body?
i live out of town and a friend is driving it an having some problems, i am trying to diagnose over the phone but…. ya.

A: 1978: The Bronco was offered with a 351M or 400 V-8 engine. Both engines had a 2 bbl carb. If you have the original engine then it has a carburetor.

Q: question about my bronco 1978?
i have a 1978 Ford bronco, engine is shot. is it possible to fit a Diesel or even a chevy engine in it??

A: Pat you can make anything work if you have enough money and
ability to do the work.if You go for diesel you half to figure out wiring
and have the right transmission.Same thing with chevy a lot a work and money. For me i would find a motor and rebuild it and put it back
in the bronco

Q: Trouble with my 1978 bronco?
I have a bronco with a rebultd 351 in it . it was running great for for 2 years and now it still runs good but the motor cuts off after driving it about 20 miles are so and i have to wait 10 mintues and it starts up again. it is not over heating. Does anyone know what that can be? thanks

A: Does that model have the module on the left hand fender? The infamous blue grommet module that overheats, and shuts off your vehicle till it cools down. Next time try pouring something cold over the module and it will likely restart instantly. If so, you have found the problem!

Q: 1978 plow on a bronco to a 1978 pickup?
i have a plow from a 1978 1/2 ton bronco can i put the plow on a 1978 3/4 ton pickup when the frame is a little different

A: yes , with modifications

Q: Bronco transfer case drain and fill plugs?
Where can I find the fill and drain plugs on my 1978 Bronco Transfer Case? I’ve found one but can’t find the second. Thanks for the help.

Pictures would be a great help too.

A: the drain plug is on the bottom and where you fill it should be right above it. you probably can,t see it because it takes a 3/8 ratchet to remove the plug. take a screwdriver and clean the dirt away from it.

Q: 1978 Ford Bronco engine repair.Help!?
I just got a lifted 1978 ford bronco with a 351M engine thats seized up for 300 bucks.
Can anyone give me help or webistes that have the 351M engine rebuild kits?
The more information about rebuilding, manuels or fixing The better.

A: This is a hard subject, might be better to go to a machine shop and talk to them to get all answers on this. Boring, oversized, and crank bearings and journals, are things that need to be addressed by pros.

Q: anyone need a 1978 ford bronco in arizona?
let me know and we can discuss price.

A: You should post on craigslist.org not here.

Q: brake light on 1978 Bronco turns on?
The brake light come on and breaks are spungy still. I changed the master cylinder and bleeded everything but still doing it

A: if you hold the pedal down for about 30 seconds the front and rear pressure will equalize and the light will go off.

if your pedal is “spongy” there is still air in the system.
did you forget to bench bleed the new master cylinder?
